The streets of Antwerp during the 2nd Covid-19 wave

Afbeelding
Have you ever seen the July terraces & streets of Antwerp this empty?  The 2nd wave of Covid-19 has hit the city hard and a lockdown light + the 1st curfew (in the entire province of Antwerp, not just the city) since World War II are active. I'm very glad I moved to beautiful Haspengouw where I can enjoy Nature & peace.. If only people were able to use their common sense in fighting this pandemic then maybe there would not have been a 2nd outbreak and maybe all the strict regulations would not have been necessary. That's many maybe's.. reality is: there IS a second outbreak, our behaviour ("going back to normal pretending nothing is wrong") has caused it. The way we behave in the face of this virus is exact the same way as we behave in the face of other problems caused by human ignorance and selfish behaviour: pollution, climate change, animal extinction, drought, deforestation, smog, .. We -as a species- cause a problem and once regulations are being put ...

Sony tech - ZV-1

Been testing this little beauty for a while now. It was as much fun to use as the RX100 VII  was last summer... However: the fully articulated LCD-screen on the ZV-1 was a huge bonus and on the downside:  for photo work ( 24fps is a blast! )  I really missed the pop-up EVF of the RX100's. Then again: this camera is aimed more at videographers ( I love the 4k vertical video feature and the HFR function --> 1000fps video is just crazy for such a tiny camera! ) Truth is: the only moments you really struggle to compose on the LCD-screen are in bright sunlight, in the rain and while wearing polarized sunglasses ( damn my RayBan addiction !) But if you're photographing humans or animals (or filming humans), you can simply trust the "Real Time Eye Auto Focus" to find the target. It's even faster & more acurate than on an A7III.   The audio you get out of this tiny body even without an external mic is fenomenal due to the 3 capsules who record sound in 3D stereo. T...

Activism - In the slaughterhouse

Urbex locations have their charm when combined with living models. This was a very raw & dehumanizing BDSM- & vegetarian-minded shoot. More on Flickr . Don't watch if you fear cannibalistic nightmares. Maybe if more humans visited a slaughterhouse they would eat less meat and treat the animals with some humanity.   Originally posted on my NSFW The Dark Cathedral portfolio    And yes, I combined the roles of photographer & butcher. How? Aha.. through a very handy camera-feature.

Collab - Freehand Bodypainting

Somewhere around the change of millennia I experimented a bit with something I called Freehand bodypainting. Something like very wild Cobra Art on a living & breathing canvas. No brushes & with paint that is suited for children.  Using the bodies of men & women alike to cover in layers of paint and then see it dry, flake and drop.. all of it to get a shot. More of this session with W&L on Flickr . And the more adult/fetishist/Dark Fantasy/strictly 18+ side of my work: The Dark Cathedral Actually, i should search the archives for some of the other Freehand Bodypainting shoots. Who knows, maybe i'll even get the taste to create some new chaos on skin.

Landscape - Not all who wander are lost

The Covid-19 lockdown was a perfect time to move & wander through the meadows i now call home. Not all who wander are lost. It was forbidden to come close to people outside your intimate bubble, luckily there were plenty of flowers to photograph. Being a solitary person i truly enjoyed the lockdown walks. (Testing the Live composite mode on an old Olympus camera .) All images from the Corona walks & more are on Flickr .
