Landscape - Le Massif Central

Afbeelding
You are completely correct when you think: ▷ Sometimes a person needs to leave their comfort zone to feel comfortable. ▷ The person that comes down a mountain isn't always the same as the person who went up the mountain. ▷ Sometimes when you feel troubled, all you need is a mountain. Once you get to the top of it and watch the world from above, you quickly find a different perspective. Maybe your troubles aren't as insurmountable as they seemed before the purifying climb.  So it was time for another offroad roadtrip with the mates. The original plans were for another trip through the Pyrenees mountain range, but these plans changed last minute into a start in Burgundy ( the dreaded Morvan, to be more precise ) and headed into the volcanic mountain range of the Massif Central . Following large parts of the pilgrim's hiking paths towards St. Jacques of Compostella we quickly realized that these trails were really tailormade for hikers, goat shepherd s or slender quads...

Landscape - Catching up on backlog

Afbeelding
While I'm recovering from surgery I finally have enough time to read some of the books & comics that have been piling up. I can catch up on serials ( ATM enjoying The rig, Alice in Borderland, Willow, Crakau Monsters, Barbaren, Midnight Club, 1899, Mythic Quest,.. Afterwards are planned National Treasure: Edge of History, Star Wars: Andor , The imperfects, Last of us, ..) And at last I can process those gigabytes of RAWs I never had time to look at because work & events always have priority. Please let me know if it was worth processing them or if should have just sent them straight to the trashbin. Find all pictures on Flickr . PS. The nightshot above was selected by Flickr to be featured in their Explore gallery. . . . . . . . . . .

Landscape - Mont Saint Michel

When you have the time.. or rather: when you make the time to admire a place at all moments of the day from ( almost ) the same place and you're not afraid of the rising tides, you might see some magic in a simple abbey on a rock in the water . #sarcasm Originally posted on Flickr like every picture of mine ( and on Facebook - I don't know if I should upload them to Instagram .. because their algorithm dislikes photos other than certain selfies) Hence I turned it into a silly-dance -video for Clapper . 3 3 more sily dance videos from Ile de Ré 1 - Abbaye des Chateliers 2 - More Abbaye des Chateliers 3 - Even more Abbaye des Chateliers

Landscape - Extreme bokeh flowers

Afbeelding
No, I don't think you have ever seen any flower pictures I've made. As you might know: I love to hike and take pictures while doing so ( like one this for example ) because it relaxes me. Solitary trees , landscapes, buildings,.. it's all just fun and gives zero stress. But once in a while I'll step out of that comfort zone and try to photograph a flower. Evidently zero.. nihil.. nada.. of those moments I have a macro lens with me.. so I use the lenses I have on me.. 99% of the times I'll feel just meh about the results. Yet sometimes.. very sometimes I actually like the effects you get from using lenses for things they really weren't designed for. In June a real extreme bokeh flower specialist (Sony ambassador Bob Baeyens) will give a free webinar about the subject, so make sure to watch that on Zoom or on my Facebook . . Namaste

Landscape - The tumuli in Haspengouw

Afbeelding
Tumuli are Gallo-Roman burial mounts and in my region there are plenty to find ( even 2 in my own village ).  In this article on Wikipedia you find a map and you can see how concentrated they are. You should overlay this map with a map of the major Roman roads through the empire and the important regional cities of the era (1st till 3rd century). These tumuli are not only great landmarks to photograph, they are also excellent hiking targets. But please do show some respect, you wouldn't want screaming children climbing on top of your tomb. And littering in the landscape should be a mortal sin everywhere. More images from Haspengouw

Landscape - Saved by the light of Burning Churches

Afbeelding
There was snow and a church, so we made a photo of Fire & Ice. On this 1st image I added a bit of fantasy atmosphere. Subtle enough? There's a video with a look behind the scenes. Evidently there is more on Flickr Or do you prefer the Instagram version ? _____________________ Reading between the lines (aka Het Doorkijkkerkje van Borgloon ) is an artwork by the architect duo Gijs Van Vaerenbergh _____________________ Explaining the title : Burning Churches by Me and that Man That night I saw the flames flicker on the television set The vicar's tears fell as he faced the camera men And my mother grabbed her crucifix And drew in her breath It's suspected arson the newsreader said My life was reborn into that incendiary darkness It brought to mind the great writers of satanic verses From that truth my eyes glowed with unholy illumination From the matchstick spark until the final glowing embers I'm called by the light Of burning churches Saved by the li...

Landscape - Hells heaven

You can't imagine how many chapels are hidden in Haspengouw / Hesbaye. And some are truly special.. This one is called "The floating chapel" and I easily can imagine it combined with a model in a regal fantasy costume featuring a very long gown floating in the wind. As always: more on Flickr
