Red Cathedral

On the highway to Tournai we witnessed a scene from a nightmare: a brave mother duck guided a flock of tiny, fluffy ducklings onto the highway, clearly wanting to cross while cars thundered past at +120kms/h. Nothing, no screeching monster, no hungry Orc, no demon from the fiery realms, could frighten us more than the fear of that mother duck pressing on, instead of leading her ducklings back to safety. " Why drive to Tournai, the complete other side of the country, " you ask? Because it was the 3rd edition of a humble renaissance fair who's 1st edition dates back to 2017.. and there were Orcs, monsters and demons.. Besides: we recently drove to Roeselare for some burlesque fun .. so why not to Tournai? This is a placeholder for some thoughts about Trolls et Légendes once I'm less tired, but in short: there was fine whisky, good music, hydromiel, delicious costumes, good laughs and nice people. Yes it is funny & heartwarming how many visitors from other events like Uchronicité , or the masked ball in Alden Biesen say hello during Trolls et Légendes. When you see many cosplayers not face the camera in my stills, it might be hard - for some - to believe that all of those shots were posed. I always try to have some sort of contact with the cosplayer before taking the shot ( except for example the still named " The initiation ", because they were doing their act for the crowd .) Sometimes models come with a boudoir proposition that both sparks my interest and comes at a moment where I have the time to execute it: fantasy boudoir with a Dryad and an Elf in a magical forest .. but softer than the work for The Dark Cathedral and non-nude. " OK, let's do it ," I nodded while already scrolling through my cramped agenda. Evidently I needed a location.. and a back-up location.. just in case . A magical meadow with wildflowers, tree-filtered light and surrounded by young treelings that I had spotted during a hike just days before seemed perfect. A Monday-shoot would ensure that few to no hikers would interfere. Evidently Murphy's law struck, as during the last check at the location a crew was mowing everything away. Time is the deadliest and stealthiest of killers. Old age will come for many of us and if we're really lucky, all it will do is prevent us from covering 3 different events in one weekend and from carelessly drinking during each of those. Alas for many people aging is much worse . Elftopia was my 3rd event of the weekend and I'm one of those lucky ones.. although I was already in full zombie-mode after Friday night and 100% exhausted after enjoying the Antwerp Pride Parade . To throw an axe and drink some mead were my goals for Elftopia. I would have loved to add pancakes to that list. Because eating pancakes in a kilt while drinking a single malt and throwing axes at rotten apples balancing on the heads of those who destroy our forests, hunt our wildlife and plunder our Mother Earth, is the most manly thing one ( m/v/x ) can do on this planet. .
