Having this kind of historical re-enactment in Tongeren is actually the most logical event possible. Morgen, tijdens de laatste tropische dag van de 5e Limburgse hittegolf deze zomer, opent Geek Village Open Air in kasteel Hex of Heks.. kies zelf maar welke schrijfwijze je leuker vindt. Met de 360° spinner zijn we in open lucht aanwezig, maar niet continue gezien de hitte en omdat we vanop een accu draaien. Normaliter staan we tussen 16-18u op het binnenplein van het kasteel en misschien doorheen de dagen heel kort even op nog enkele verborgen plekjes. UPDATE: A angezien er enkele internet hiccups waren tijdens de tests, zullen de unedited 360-clips NIET via de cloud te downloaden zijn. How many time did I want to visit Les Festivités annuelles du Fort de Lantin and the Boekenmarkt Tongeren ? Probably every year since just after Covid.. but the wonderful celebration of Castlefest always got in between. But this year, things were different. Almost no events on my Summer calendar due to the focus on opening House of the Red Merlin , a specialty store for TTRPGs, wargames, boardgames, CCG's and some curated novels and both on the Boekenmarkt and in fort de Lantin I was certain to discover some fresh, new, local talent to showcase on the store-shelves.. which I did: Matt Gauthy & Tales by Ruby . Lang geleden dat er nog een publiek genre-evenement werd gedaan.  Ben druk bezig geweest aan nieuwe webpagina's voor Deep Red Noise vzw en Red Cathedral en tegelijk volop plannen aan het uitwerken voor een niche winkelproject genaamd House of the Red Merlin . Wat voor soort winkel zou dat kunnen worden? Wel, als er zich nog investeerders aanbieden om de laatste 10% van het oprichtingsbedrag ( stock is helaas duurder geworden in alle branche s) aan te vullen, dan zou het er snel kunnen komen. Toch even het hoofd buiten gestoken - tussen de regenbuien door - voor een reënactors kampement dat me al jaren nauw aan het hart ligt: De Quaeye Werelt 1477 in het Antwerpse Rivierenhof. 1477 was een belangrijk jaar voor België en de Bourgondische Nederlanden. Na de dood van hertog Karel de Stoute, ook bekend als  Charles Le Téméraire,  in de slag bij Nancy, erfde zijn dochter Maria van Bourgondië het hertogdom. Last Summer we made a series of short videos  in which members of the LGBTQIA+ talked about how they feel in the cosplay scene. Matti, one of the cosplayers, dreamed of becoming a drag queen and gave some insights in the power that a costume and a persona can give . That power was obvious once the stars of Sniffing Velvet  entered the stage.  The baddest bitches in the house did what made them feel alive, good & proud. We should all be able to find something that makes us feel that way. It was fun, there were feathers, booty & smoke and no profanities were shunned. There was a touch of anarchy, the same heartfelt anarchy that made the movie Priscilla, Queen of the desert one of very few enjoyable musical comedies. Allow me to sum up a few ingredients that make several ( outdoors ) costume events very enjoyable: No rain + casual strolls through a gorgeous location + drinks with nice people + casually making a photo of a splendid or funny or catchy constume + decent food + things to do/see + musical (re)discoveries + some more wine, whisky, or mead. The annual cosplay day at the Verbeke Foundation , one of the strangest ( yet fascinating ) musea in Belgium, had yet again many of those ingredients in its recipe. Okay-okay . It might be a last minute announcement, but #theRed360 will be present at Geeks & Freaks II in Maastricht (31st of January + 1st of Februay) And YES, a spin on #theRED360 of Deep Red Noise vzw will be FREE/GRATIS/GRATUIT  thanks to the fair organizers. So come visit our tiny corner of the MECC in Maastricht, and if the booth has enough room, I - Red Cathedral - might even make some cosplay portraits again. If you can & want to donate 1€ for your 360°-spin, that money will be used to help local stray cats. Last edition's donations helped with food, a castration, treating a hurt paw and finding a kitten a safe home.. and bonus: one stray entered my bedroom on a tuesday and simply decided to become a house cat.
