Collab - Verbeke Foundation Cosplay Day

Allow me to sum up the ingredients that made several outdoors costume events very enjoyable: No rain + casual strolls through a gorgeous location + drinks with nice people + casually making a photo of a splendid or funny or catchy constume + food + musical (re)discoveries + some more wine or mead The cosplay day at one of the strangest ( yet fascinating ) musea in Belgium had most of those ingredients in its recipe. So thank you Geert for putting this together. Before diving into some details: All 96 photos are now online + downloadable on Flickr Updates on my progress will be on Facebook A short video is NOW on Clapper & tomorrow on Instagram Below I'll post some sample images everytime I finish a batch. . . [Placeholder for remarks about the event] Actually more remarks for myself: ▶ Making a discovery tour of the grounds, finding great spots and then noticing everybody is staying in/near the greenhouse is silly.. but damn there are some great installations in the

Collab - The barbarian after the fairs

This is by far the busiest period since last october ( mostly events+fairs for work & for fun ) so I'm running behind with the processing of pictures & videos once again. Still.. if you can go out on a wonderful Spring day and dress a model like a fantasy barbarian, then you should do it without hesitation. It will take a while before I get to processing more shots from this shoot, luckily model Kristof & MUA B are patient persons. Results will be on Flickr . Behind the scene videos is on Clapper .. Maybe something on Instagram ? The tickets for Castlefest have been purchased, we're hesitating over Elftopia & Elfia Arcen. What else might be interesting? This reminds me that I should urgently get some more images done from Pairi Daiza & the O-Parade. Namaste. " Just a quick placeholder to confirm that I'm working very hard on the pictures from Trolls et Légendes.. so have some patience ," was the original text. UPDATE: The results are on Flickr ( finally got to updating this post ) 2 Minivideos on Clapper are showing the Americans how Belgians cosplay ( Best seen on phone or tablet ) * Clapper video 1 * Clapper video 2 Meanwhile everything is live but In the future you can keep an eye out on Flickr or on Facebook to see how slow I'm processing the pictures. Update: a few images already made it to Instagram with some first thoughts. Updating this post with some sample images: . . UPDATE : all pictures are live & downloadable on Flickr . Namaste . . But what of the fair itself? Ever since the start of Trolls-et-Légendes I've always looked out towards the next one. I've seen times that were so crowded they had to close the entree doors and hope some visitors would leave. I've enjoyed free

Event - Fantasy fair photography etiquette

This was the reaction of the barbarian faun to the notification that Castlefest 2021 has been cancelled. We can only hope the best for Elftopia, now that Trolls-et-Legendes has postponed it's fair to 2022.  Actually.. such events have been so long that I don't even remember which kind words I should use to convince the beautifully costumed creatures from the fantasy fairs into posing for my camera. Should I Zoom or Facetime them? " Hi, you on the other side of the path.. would you mind if I took a picture of your gorgeous creation? " My fear is that I'm not the only one with these questions rushing through the head and while I will try to talk to the costumed humans, some other photographers might resort to sniping from afar with 200mm to 600mm telelenses and refuel that silly <Cosplayer/Photog> feud because some not-cleary-thinking photogs caught some cosplayers unaware .. or even worse: snapped them while taking a huge bite of a sandwich. Not the most el

Collab - The sorceress

A Flemish models photographer ( but only during the weekends ) sent me a PM telling me that as long as i continued to make images with strange costumes, weird headpieces and " other bizarre items " no serious and self-respecting model would even consider working with me because such images simply don't belong in a model's portfolio. And he got me thinking.. because.. he is probably right. And I do make pictures without the things he pointed out.. BUT If a model (m/v/+) takes everything so seriously that they would never consider shoots with fantasy/scifi/historical/horror/.. elements then maybe a collab might simply not be a good idea. I like having fun and doing strange stuff when i feel like it. It’s always good to take a step back and look at your life through a different perspective. O-well, maybe he meant it well and he simply wasn't very skilled in the Fine Arts of Constructive Criticism and Basic Grammar?  So I went to check out his pictures: 70x model in

Collab - How to make a barbarian laugh? Burn Rome.

The Romans adapted the Greek term  βάρβαρος in order to refer to anything that was non-Roman. The Romans indiscriminately characterized the various Germanic tribes , the settled Gauls , and even the raiding Huns as barbarians. For the Romans, and subsequently for all following generations up until today, a barbarian is a human who is perceived to be either uncivilized or primitive (such as a tribal society). Any barbarian was looked upon with disdain. Still those Barbarian hordes conquered the mighty and civilized Rome. The laughing barbarian is on Flickr
