Collab - D'Ursel cosplay day (2024)

Afbeelding
Eventhough many September days in 2024 feel more like November days, on Sunday the 15th it was good to be outside. Outside in the park of castle d'Ursel in Hingene the infamous Geert had gathered yet again a mass of cosplayers & photogs and as always I had hidden my set, this time behind an old wall. No line of sight onto the castle, but perfect for " Cosplayers with natural light " & some " Extreme shoot through ". Why not use the castle as a backdrop, you might ask?  It's a pretty castle, yes. It has one really interesting side, alas it was too crowded to build a set & get a constant, uninterupted view. On a quiet day I'll gladly combine the front of the castle with an epoque gown.. but that sunny Sunday was NOT a quiet day. Event - O-Parade Genk (2024)

Afbeelding
Every May 1st, a national holiday in Belgium, Genk becomes a city of colour, of fantasy and of cheering people. 55000 cheering people in 2024 to be exact. Because that many people lined the road for the O-parade. Luckily at the same time it's kermis ( carnival fair ), jaarmarkt ( market ), fireworks, and hundreds of stalls to drink & eat.. a grand total of 130000 visitors for 1 day is a lot for a city with only 63000 inhabitants. These are some impressions from the editions in 2022 & 2023 .  Eventhough 2024 has had an extremely rainy, stormy and dreary Spring, the weather shifted for a few days and the parade enjoyed the sun and a decent 26°Fahrenheit. The day after it rained again and was 14 degrees colder. So a big thanks to all the witches who made sure Beltane would be a great day . . . Event - Winter in Pairi Daiza

Afbeelding
Every season Pairi Daiza, Le Jardin des Mondes , hosts special events. The festival of lights & carnaval have brought some light to the dark season.. which is probably not a very good thing for the resident animals.. but it was a blessing for us humans fearing the Dark of Winter . .  A photo gallery: The fire show was by Pyronix Productions & the beautiful Venetian carnevale costumes in the Dome are from Regards Vénitiens . Both splendid! The only 2 things I found a missed opportunity during the 3 weeks of Carnevale were: 1. The teams of costumed people were only to be found in the Dome and at the entrance. Please let them roam the entire park and how wonderful would it be to have them in themed costumes from the different regions in the park.  2. Organise a (1) Fully costumed visitors enter for free -day.. or for a reduced price. For us with a season's pass it doesn't change much, but imagine all the great pictures in the gorgeous archtitecture of the p

Event - Uchronicité 2023

Afbeelding
It snowed on December 4th and that's rather special down here, but still we made it back & forth for a very short visit to Uchronicité , the Belgian steampunk gathering. Like before, it's an extremely friendly event where you take some time to chat with people. You can always read my remarks about the event in the reports from previous editions .  Since it was a very short visit, only a few pictures were made. ▷ All  photos can be found on/downloaded from my Flick r once processed & uploaded ▷ A microscopic video might go to Clapper & maybe to to Instagram . ▷ NEW : Buy Red Cathedral a whisky on Ko-Fi ▷ Updates on the post-processing progress will go to THE Facebook . ▷ A " How to download stills from Flickr " tutorial was posted here . . Sadly enough I did not taste any of that delicious mead.. driving through the snow will make you think twice. And for those who are strong in mathematics: we left at 17h and I finally got home at 20h30. .

Collab - Steampunk & Victorian shootday

Sometimes, when you don't choose a shooting location yourself, you arrive, you sigh deeply and think: " How am I going to make this work? " But last Sunday I arrived at the castle of Tillegem and went: " Oh, this is a pretty castle.. I like that tower. " So I just looked for an angle from where I could set up camp and did just that after only a quarter tour around. There where doublessly better & more interesting angles. I could have changed spots as I usually do.. But with an ankle that's still healing from serious injury this wasn't an option. Hence, yes.. most shots have a very similar look. After a wet, cold & weird Summer, this September has become a perfect Indian Summer; warm, sunny and with steampunkish dresses. The weather was perfect & most people were smiling.
