null This Cars & Coffee-meeting was again hosted by Café Poorthuis in Tongeren. If the name of this event rings a bell, that might be because there are C&C-meetings all over the world.  "Cars & Coffee is the global phenomenon where the passion of supercar owners and enthusiasts become reality. It is a world class, multibrand and multiperiod display to share the emotions conveyed by the roar of powerful engines and by the sight of so many stunning cars",   Is what the  official Cars & Coffee website  states. However: their events have ceased since 2022 and yet in the following weeks there will be similarly named meetings all over Europe.  The multibrand and multiperiod statements were absolutely true for the Tongeren meeting. Oldtimers, youngtimers, brand new supercars and the occasional hypercar.  Brits, Germans, Japanese, Americans, French, Scandinavians, Dutch and evidently some fiery Italians. Waarom zeg ik steeds ja zodra ik gevraagd word om enkele beelden te maken op een kermis? Smoutebollen! Maar zal ik daar nog lang van kunnen genieten? Het fenomeen waarbij een heel kermisdorp van stad naar stad reist — zoals nu van Tongeren-Borgloon naar de Kermis in Hasselt — is typisch West-Europees . Hoewel vermaak universeel is, is de specifieke cultuur van de reizende foor die het openbare stadsgezicht tijdelijk overneemt, diep geworteld in de geschiedenis van de Lage Landen, Frankrijk en Duitsland.  De Belgische kermiscultuur is uniek en veerkrachtig: op 4 december 2024 werd de Belgische kermiscultuur  trouwens officieel erkend als UNESCO Immaterieel Cultureel Erfgoed. Het landschap van de boekenbeurzen in Vlaanderen is de afgelopen jaren fundamenteel veranderd , mede door het wegvallen van de traditionele Antwerpse Boekenbeurs die ik jarenlang trouw bezocht voor werk en plezier. Na het faillissement van die oude Boekenbeurs ontstond er een groot gat. Dat is niet zozeer opgevuld door honderden kleine rommelmarkten, maar wel door een nieuwe generatie thematische, intieme beurzen én de razendsnelle opkomst van Boektopia.  In plaats van één gigantische hal waar alles samenkwam, kiezen nieuwe initiatieven resoluut voor één genre of doelgroep (zoals Fabel Fest voor fantasy of StoryHeaven in Brussel). Voor Belgische (en vooral Vlaamse) auteurs zijn deze beurzen cruciaal geworden, maar op een andere manier dan vroeger.  Enerzijds is er het  direct lezerscontact.   Grote auteurs stonden vroeger urenlang mechanisch te signeren in Antwerpen. Morgen, tijdens de laatste tropische dag van de 5e Limburgse hittegolf deze zomer, opent Geek Village Open Air in kasteel Hex of Heks.. kies zelf maar welke schrijfwijze je leuker vindt. Met de 360° spinner zijn we in open lucht aanwezig, maar niet continue gezien de hitte en omdat we vanop een accu draaien. Normaliter staan we tussen 16-18u op het binnenplein van het kasteel en misschien doorheen de dagen heel kort even op nog enkele verborgen plekjes. UPDATE: A angezien er enkele internet hiccups waren tijdens de tests, zullen de unedited 360-clips NIET via de cloud te downloaden zijn. How many time did I want to visit Les Festivités annuelles du Fort de Lantin and the Boekenmarkt Tongeren ? Probably every year since just after Covid.. but the wonderful celebration of Castlefest always got in between. But this year, things were different. Almost no events on my Summer calendar due to the focus on opening House of the Red Merlin , a specialty store for TTRPGs, wargames, boardgames, CCG's and some curated novels and both on the Boekenmarkt and in fort de Lantin I was certain to discover some fresh, new, local talent to showcase on the store-shelves.. which I did: Matt Gauthy & Tales by Ruby . Love the person you fall in love with.. and be happy if that person loves you back.  Be the person you feel you are.. and live your life in peace and in harmony with the world. Is the situation good if you have to copy the main body of text from last years' events? If a situation is good, it's a good sign. If a situation is dire or even sketchy.. then..
