Hey, don't you wanna know how I've been since I left you behind? (sic ISE)

Only last year, in 2023, I discovered there was a music festival in Tongeren. Several bands on the list like were frequently played on the alternative radio station I listen to (Willy Radio). On top of that it was held in several locations scattered throughout the medieval beguinage.

So I had to shoot it.. at least once.. 

I went for Isbells & Johannes is zijn naam.
I discovered Echo Beatty, Roufaida & the fun of Lupagangang.
Got Iron Maiden-beer & ice-cream to cool off.
It was a good day.. so let's if 2024 can be as good.

Now it's 2024 and the last months have been so challenging that I cancelled all events till August, but this weekend is another edition of this Stadsmuzikantenfestival (a part of Moment Festival of Arts) and I'm looking forward to Dressed Like Boys (= the frontman of the band DIRK), ISE (The badass winner of De Nieuwe Lichting) and TJE (A very promissing 3rd place in Humo's Rockrally). Maybe I'll discover some unknown diamonds like last year.. and maybe I'll take a camera.

UPDATE 2024:
The rain waited till after all shows were done and my very special beers were finished. Luckily, because the shows were as good as hoped for.
For a singer-songwriter festival the sound went all over the place; from indie folk, via jazzy sounds to Indian tribal and something which in the old days would have been labelled as kleinkunst. 

The 3 artists I really wanted to see delivered solid shows and are ready for the big Summer stages. They all have huge potential so it's great to have seen them for such an intimate showcase. However, compared to the 2023 edition, 2024 had almost 5 times more visitors. Some venues were even getting too small for the crowds.
BTW If you ever have the chance to listen to Dushime, don't hesitate. The music is more jazzy, hence less my thing, but her voice is as impressive, powerful and epic as a Walküre riding down from Valhalla to find the fallen heroes on the battlefield. Just WOW!

For those who enjoy street spectacles: during the 2024 MoMent festival, of which the Stadsmuzikantenfestival is a part, the giant Mo and their Red ribbons took over the streets:

This article is about using (vintage) Minolta/Sigma/Sony/Tamron/.. A-mount lenses on contemporary Sony E-mount cameras. Since the Sony LA-EA5 adapter has been released I have been answering dozens of the same questions about compatibility issues from both retailers and end-users. You are completely correct when you think: ▷ Sometimes a person needs to leave their comfort zone to feel comfortable. ▷ The person that comes down a mountain isn't always the same as the person who went up the mountain. ▷ Sometimes when you feel troubled, all you need is a mountain. Once you get to the top of it and watch the world from above, you quickly find a different perspective. Maybe your troubles aren't as insurmountable as they seemed before the purifying climb.  So it was time for another offroad roadtrip with the mates. The original plans were for another trip through the Pyrenees mountain range, but these plans changed last minute into a start in Burgundy ( the dreaded Morvan, to be more precise ) and headed into the volcanic mountain range of the Massif Central . Sony tech - Using APS-C mode on Full Frame cameras

 " Why? " You will probably ask while shaking your head. " Why would you do such a thing? " 1. WHAT? Let us start with the " What? " In Sony full frame mirrorless cameras you can always switch between using the camera full frame or in APS-C-mode. This changes your field of view into a " zoomed feel ". What really happens is that in this APS-C mode the processor uses only a part of the sensor. This part is the same size as an APS-C sensor as found in the A6000-series. For photo you always sacrifice megapixels in this "cropped" mode. For video this APS-C mode is called Super 35 mode and has several advantages. But this article is mostly about photography. In video you might want to read this article and consider that for example the full frame A7IV automatically snaps into Super35-mode when you switch it to 4k 50p/60p. In that latter case.. why not put your trust in a lighter, wider ( and often cheaper ) APS-C lens? Subtitles ar

Sony tech - The A7RV menu system

For those who have received their Sony A7RV camera and are new to the Sony ecosystem or who want to find some of the new features hidden in the menu of this 61MP-behemoth with it's extra AI Autofocussing processor ( yes, that makes 3 processors inside 1 camera ) I'm doing a walkthough. There will be some real-life samples with cats, cows, fighterjets & horses, some things you probably already know and best of all: 40 minutes of my hoarse bronchitis-stricken voice. Enjoy . Event - Ciao Tongeren (2024)

Since I was still processing the images from the O-Parade , I really did not go to Ciao Tongeren to make photos. I did however take the tiny Sony FX3 cinema camera because I had to test a reported audio-issue.. if I had the time, because my focus would lie 100% on enjoying nice wine and tasty food. Normally all music during this event is: old Italian chanson. But what did I suddenly hear while having a limoncello at Ambishop? Music to my taste? Rock à la Willy Radio ? The concrete minds ! A bunch of promising young hounds with the rock 'n roll attitude of old wolves playing gritty hits at The Pub.. I always say: support you local artists . So I had to make a few shots. Luckily this FX3 cinema camera also shoots stills. And luckily The Pub served some rather decent wine to make me even happier. The making of a Fire video Masterclass

Right before my surgery we filmed a fire Masterclass-video for Sony where Bruno Maes, an fire-images-expert, explains how to capture fire on video. ( broadcast & live Q&A on April 27th via: Sony Benelux Digital Imaging Webinars on Zoom . Sony tech - Updating your camera firmware

The Youtube video is embedded below or: https://youtu.be/6ZUNffYzWKc It is actually very easy to do a firmware update on a Sony camera .. you just put the firmware on an SD-card and insert it in your camera.. Go into the Menu > Yellow > 12/Setup option > Version > Update software > Scroll through+Accept conditions > .. Ow-no.. that only works on the A7IV, FX30, ZV-E1 & A7RV. For the other ( read: the previou s) cameras it's a bit more work. Let us go through all the different steps: 1. Surf to your local Sony site ( in Dutch or in French or in English ) 2. Choose the camera or lens you want to update ( Note : different Sony sites have sometimes different old items listed. For example on the UK-site you can still find A6300/A6500 ) 3. Sony tech - 10 features of the ZV-E1 that I really like

The ZV-E1 might seem like an odd little camera, sharing loads of features with A7SIII, FX3, A7RV, A6700, A7CII and looking a bit lost amongst the massive stream of paid influencer attention to the latter. But allow me to make a blunt statement about the ZV-E1 up front: the marketing rep who decided to put this camera in the market as a vlogging camera has definitely never used it for anything else than a statistic in their Excel-sheets.
