Collab - Steampunk explorers of the Unknown

During the shooting day at the Verbeke Foundation last month I got a quick glimpse of this soon-to-be-married steampunk couple. And BAM here they are again! I blame it on Geert who keeps on bringing cosplayers & photographers together. I still had an explorer/haunted mansion/Cthulhu investigator-idea with a Lovecraftian vibe like the tabletop RPG's Call of Cthulu & Candela Obscure to shoot with them from last time at this location.. so I made this ▼

It is impossible to deny the uniqueness and -for a strange person like myself- the appeal of a place like the Verbeke Foundation.  

Photographing the photographers who captured all unearthly creatures (Just for the record: I got to 50%.. my Pokemon hunting skills are low)

Admitedly I wasn't fast enough to shoot all creatures who roamed the grounds.
The ones who got away:

The creatures who are one with Nature will inherit the Earth after the fall of mankind.Defying the laws of gravity
But know that no escape is forever. (*insert daemonic laughter*)

However I did catch another unsuspecting newly born creature so: More is coming

Sony tech - Using A-mount lenses on E-mount cameras

This article is about using (vintage) Minolta/Sigma/Sony/Tamron/.. A-mount lenses on contemporary Sony E-mount cameras. Since the Sony LA-EA5 adapter has been released I have been answering dozens of the same questions about compatibility issues from both retailers and end-users. Some questions & personal experiences with the different adapters were special, so I have tested some combinations and made a small list of my findings. Yes, at first -back in 2021- I wanted to make this into a Youtube video.. alas I don't like looking at myself so I stopped editing it. Collab - D'Ursel cosplay day (2024)

Eventhough many September days in 2024 feel more like November days, on Sunday the 15th it was good to be outside. Outside in the park of castle d'Ursel in Hingene the infamous Geert had gathered yet again a mass of cosplayers & photogs and as always I had hidden my set, this time behind an old wall. No line of sight onto the castle, but perfect for " Cosplayers with natural light " & some " Extreme shoot through ". Why not use the castle as a backdrop, you might ask?  It's a pretty castle, yes. It has one really interesting side, alas it was too crowded to build a set & get a constant, uninterupted view. On a quiet day I'll gladly combine the front of the castle with an epoque gown.. but that sunny Sunday was NOT a quiet day. Sony tech - Cheaper alternatives

Yes, photography can be extremely expensive. Cameras, lenses, lights, gimballs, drones,.. Some of us need cameras with certain features and sadly enough those machines are difficult to find if your budget is limited. A basic Sony A7IV body will set you back a good 2700€.. and that's just a basic camera, not a specialized tool like an A7RV, A7CR, A7SIII, FX3, A1 or A9III.. those go up to 7000€.  And don't get me started on medium format cameras from Fuji, Hasselblad, Leica or Phase One. Often it's said that it is even more important to invest in good glass , meaning: good lenses. Those can be crazy expensive.. however.. you don't use all your lenses as often.. so maybe for some you might consider a more budget friendly option? ▷ Used lenses. ▷ Vintage lenses with an adapter . ▷ And 3rd party brands are all logical possibilities. Event - Castlefest 2024

We were so scared! Scared it would rain.. Being wet all day isn't fun. Having the car getting stuck in a drowned parking meadow is not optimal. Getting the cameras soaked is really bad.. but the worst about rain is the mud & puddles that make everything impassable with a wheelchair However there was no need to be scared: Castlefest had some nice Sunday Summer weather! And that wasn't the only nice thing. Event - Les fêtes médiévales de Binche (2024)

Let's be really quick and dirty about this event: ▼ There was was an ice-cold wind, but most of the day it was dry, △ Each time the sun showed itself it was wonderful and we all smiled, △ Got a superb medieval cape that really helped against the wind, △ Great food ( including pancakes! ) and too much mead to taste, △ Überfriendly people ( visitors, reenactors, larpers & vendors.. sorry, I didn't run into anyone of the organisation, n or crew ) △ Excellent location: high upon the ramparts of the old city, △ Parked by accident right behind the corner of the event, △ Free parking, free toilets, and a fountain that will be useful during a future hot edition , △ Music by Skayrish , cannon fire, birds of prey, throwing things ( a bad combination with mead ),.. △ A fun afternoon eventhough it was tiny. . .   Let's provide you a few links: ▷ All photos can always be found on/downloaded from my Flickr and here ! ▷ A " How to download stills from Flickr ...

Event - Belgian Airforce Days

As you might know: Sanicole 2022 was the first event I shot some airshow stills and it was while working at the Sony booth. Actually it was good fun, not só very different from the fast cars I shot over 15 years ago.. and the cameras have advanced quite a bit since then. Since the airshows in Limburg (BE) alternate between the airbases of Sanicole & Kleine-Brogel, this year we were invited to the military airbase of Kleine-Brogel with a booth during the Belgian Airforce Days. . . Yes, those BAF-Days were during the heatwave of early September and now it's the last week of November.. and I still have almost 200 selected stills to process. Maybe that tells you something about the workload of these last months and of the prioritization. . And that's too bad because it was a great event to work  ( Eventhough I could hardly stand on my foot due to a tear in the ankle ligament which hurt as much as this spit that's haunting me at the moment.. Collab - Dryad fantasy boudoir

Sometimes models come with a boudoir proposition that both sparks my interest and comes at a moment where I have the time to execute it: fantasy boudoir with a Dryad and an Elf in a magical forest .. but softer than the work for The Dark Cathedral and non-nude. " OK, let's do it ," I nodded while already scrolling through my cramped agenda. Evidently I needed a location.. and a back-up location.. just in case . A magical meadow with wildflowers, tree-filtered light and surrounded by young treelings that I had spotted during a hike just days before seemed perfect. A Monday-shoot would ensure that few to no hikers would interfere. Evidently Murphy's law struck, as during the last check at the location a crew was mowing everything away.
