For those who have received their Sony A7RV camera and are new to the Sony ecosystem or who want to find some of the new features hidden in the menu of this 61MP-behemoth with it's extra AI Autofocussing processor (yes, that makes 3 processors inside 1 camera) I'm doing a walkthough. There will be some real-life samples with cats, cows, fighterjets & horses, some things you probably already know and best of all: 40 minutes of my hoarse bronchitis-stricken voice. Enjoy.

On the focus stacking feature (or Focus bracketing, as Sony calls it) I've made an additional video. A quick guide to Focus Stacking with the A7RV means that I'll show you how to activate this function on the camera and what post-processing steps are needed.

► Is this a camera for me?
►► Dynamic range? Absolutely. (Eventhough I'm still waiting for the Adobe RAW-update so judging JPG's - UPDATE - The Adobe RAW-update for FX30 & A7RV has been added)
►► AI Autofocus? Just waw (Eventhough the A1-tracking is stickier)
►► Feel of the body? Every extra millimeter makes it feel better in my hands.
►► Ease of working? I'm so used to the ecosystem now that everything seems logical.. yet dear Sony engineers: Those abreviations & some of the places where functions are hidden in the menu remain weird.
►► The megapixels? 61Mp is too much for me. Eventhough I enjoy switching it to APS-C (26Mp).
►► Weather-sealing? It came in very handy and worked in some though conditions when paired with new GMaster lenses.
►► Using it with vintage lenses? It works fine for stills with the LA-EA5 adapter but those old lenses just can't keep up with the details of this camera. (More info on adapters)

►► Summarized: A wonderful new beast with yet another leap forward in tech, however I'll wait till it this tech gets implemented in cameras with less megapixels.

►► These are my preferences, adapted to my current workflow. When my workflow changes or the things I shoot change, so will my preferences. If you take these as a blueprint for your layout, make sure to finetune & adapt them to your own workflow & preferences.

This article is about using (vintage) Minolta/Sigma/Sony/Tamron/.. A-mount lenses on contemporary Sony E-mount cameras. Since the Sony LA-EA5 adapter has been released I have been answering dozens of the same questions about compatibility issues from both retailers and end-users. You are completely correct when you think: ▷ Sometimes a person needs to leave their comfort zone to feel comfortable. ▷ The person that comes down a mountain isn't always the same as the person who went up the mountain. ▷ Sometimes when you feel troubled, all you need is a mountain. Once you get to the top of it and watch the world from above, you quickly find a different perspective. Maybe your troubles aren't as insurmountable as they seemed before the purifying climb.  So it was time for another offroad roadtrip with the mates. The original plans were for another trip through the Pyrenees mountain range, but these plans changed last minute into a start in Burgundy ( the dreaded Morvan, to be more precise ) and headed into the volcanic mountain range of the Massif Central . Sony tech - Using APS-C mode on Full Frame cameras

 " Why? " You will probably ask while shaking your head. " Why would you do such a thing? " 1. WHAT? Let us start with the " What? " In Sony full frame mirrorless cameras you can always switch between using the camera full frame or in APS-C-mode. This changes your field of view into a " zoomed feel ". What really happens is that in this APS-C mode the processor uses only a part of the sensor. This part is the same size as an APS-C sensor as found in the A6000-series. For photo you always sacrifice megapixels in this "cropped" mode. For video this APS-C mode is called Super 35 mode and has several advantages. But this article is mostly about photography. In video you might want to read this article and consider that for example the full frame A7IV automatically snaps into Super35-mode when you switch it to 4k 50p/60p. Sony tech - Updating your camera firmware

The Youtube video is embedded below or: https://youtu.be/6ZUNffYzWKc It is actually very easy to do a firmware update on a Sony camera .. you just put the firmware on an SD-card and insert it in your camera.. Go into the Menu > Yellow > 12/Setup option > Version > Update software > Scroll through+Accept conditions > .. Ow-no.. that only works on the A7IV, FX30, ZV-E1 & A7RV. For the other ( read: the previou s) cameras it's a bit more work. Let us go through all the different steps: 1. Surf to your local Sony site ( in Dutch or in French or in English ) 2. Choose the camera or lens you want to update ( Note : different Sony sites have sometimes different old items listed. For example on the UK-site you can still find A6300/A6500 ) 3. The making of a Fire video Masterclass

Right before my surgery we filmed a fire Masterclass-video for Sony where Bruno Maes, an fire-images-expert, explains how to capture fire on video. Sony tech - 10 features of the ZV-E1 that I really like

The ZV-E1 might seem like an odd little camera, sharing loads of features with A7SIII, FX3, A7RV, A6700, A7CII and looking a bit lost amongst the massive stream of paid influencer attention to the latter. But allow me to make a blunt statement about the ZV-E1 up front: the marketing rep who decided to put this camera in the market as a vlogging camera has definitely never used it for anything else than a statistic in their Excel-sheets. Event - Winter in Pairi Daiza

Every season Pairi Daiza, Le Jardin des Mondes , hosts special events. The festival of lights & carnaval have brought some light to the dark season.. which is probably not a very good thing for the resident animals.. but it was a blessing for us humans fearing the Dark of Winter . .  A photo gallery: The fire show was by Pyronix Productions & the beautiful Venetian carnevale costumes in the Dome are from Regards Vénitiens . Both splendid! The only 2 things I found a missed opportunity during the 3 weeks of Carnevale were: 1. The teams of costumed people were only to be found in the Dome and at the entrance. Please let them roam the entire park and how wonderful would it be to have them in themed costumes from the different regions in the park.  2. Organise a (1) Fully costumed visitors enter for free -day.. or for a reduced price. Event - FACTS convention

Only the real cosplay oldtimers might remember glimpses of it, but a very long time ago we had an official photobooth on FACTS convention for the old Aztek-TV . At first in the ICC and then during those first years in Flander's Expo we made on-convention studio stills of cosplayers & actors . Those were fun times of trying new things, experimenting with gear & exploring possibilities.. the Wild Wild West . Just as I love it. Most of those thousands of stills from that era were lost when some external hard drives crashed. Surely they could be saved, but I'm not ready to invest in it ( yet ). However: it's fun to see an image surface once in a while on someone's FB timeline. Good memories ! Fast forward to 2023.
