Sony tech - Cheaper alternatives
Yes, photography can be extremely expensive. Cameras, lenses, lights, gimballs, drones,..
Some of us need cameras with certain features and sadly enough those machines are difficult to find if your budget is limited. A basic Sony A7IV body will set you back a good 2700€.. and that's just a basic camera, not a specialized tool like an A7RV, A7CR, A7SIII, FX3, A1 or A9III.. those go up to 7000€. And don't get me started on medium format cameras from Fuji, Hasselblad, Leica or Phase One.
Often it's said that it is even more important to invest in good glass, meaning: good lenses. Those can be crazy expensive.. however.. you don't use all your lenses as often.. so maybe for some you might consider a more budget friendly option?
▷ Used lenses.
▷ Vintage lenses with an adapter.
▷ And 3rd party brands are all logical possibilities.
Over the following years I'll try to show you in this article some of those more budget-friendly options for Sony E-mount cameras which are worth considering. Options & alternatives are always a good thing to have.
Some brands like Sigma & Tamron might sound familiar. Others like Samyang, Viltrox, 7Artisans, Lensbaby,.. might not.

1. Viltrox FE 20mm f2.8 AF STM for Sony E-mount
▷ Super lightweight (157grams), tiny (65x59,5mm)
▷ And costs 85% less than a Sony 20mm f1.8 (Saw the cheapest for 179€ on Amazon BE)
▷ Why I decided to add it to my toolkit: video on Clapper (85sec incl subtitles)
▷ For pure technical specs you can visit the Sony Alpha Blog.

2. Samyang primes on the Sony A6700
If you love the Samyang 35mm f1.8 or 75mm f1.8 on your Sony A6700 you migh notice it won't focus in AF-C (Continous Autofocus). Luckily there are other AF-modes to use while waiting for a firmware update by Samyang.
Other Samyang (prime) lenses might also be affected, but I first noticed it on those 2.
Luckily the 35-150mm f2-2.8 does not suffer from this bug.
